Vacation AHEAD!
This has been rescheduled and cancelled multiple times. It is officially off until...who knows when. However I do have 4 nights of prepaid motel rooms in St. George and have 10 more months to use them. So maybe later...
Lambing
This has definitely been a group effort this year. We were more prepared this year than ever and I think that has helped it go better than previous years. I have been working out in the barn from anywhere between 10-11 PM until 2-2:30 in the morning. Except for last night, yeah funny story.
I came to, I mean stuck to the ceiling, at 1:59 AM. I had my knees up like I had attempted to get out of bed at some point in time, taken the covers off of me, and just continued sleeping. I had my contacts in because, umm, I wasn't supposed to be sleeping, so I couldn't get my eyes open. I ran with the bare necessities to the barn fearing that everything alive would have lambed and there would be a disaster. This would then lead to me freaking out in the corral for my father-in-law to find when he came to relieve me.
Luckily...only one ewe had lambed. Sadly...the sack was over its head and after the water drained out, it died. The worst...I agree with Layne, it was worth the sleep. Most nights on my shift it have been slow, usually 1-2 ewes have lambed. My father-in-law, Will, and the sheepherder have had most of the work. No complaints here! There were a couple of nights that I couldn't help because I worked overnights out at Sorenson's.
We haven't had a lot of twins and I think we have only had one set of triplets. However to compensate we have had HUGE lambs. I mean these suckers come out half grown, ready to be weaned! The first couple of nights at about 1:00 AM I would have to call Will to come and pull lambs. Seriously I think he was ready to kill me. The fourth night, and after some encouragement from Layne, I decided to suck it up and pull one myself. I couldn't get the ewe down on her side so we had to do this standing. I pinned her in a corner with my knee after only a few laps around the pen. I pulled and pulled and pulled. Of course she was fighting the whole time. After the lamb was 1/3 of the way out, I decided that if I let her run and held on to the lamb the momentum would get the lamb the rest of the way out. Small corner...dumb idea. As I let go of the ewe she knocked me off my balance, but didn't loosen my grip. As she is running to start another lap around the pen, I am whirling in circles. What was in my hands flying through the air, the fatest newborn lamb you have ever seen. I am sure that my husband would have killed me had he seen it, but he didn't, and everything lived. He should just be glad he got to sleep.
I think we have less than a week left and a bunch of ewes that still need to lamb. Tonight I have had 0 Ewes lamb...Thus giving me the time to catch up on blogging and facebook!

Alysen's 8th Birthday
My sweet 6Ib 8oz baby girl turned 8 on March 17th. We had her grandparents over for cake that night and her birthday party the next night. For her party she invited every girl from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes. That's right, every girl from 3 grades, when you live where we do thats not very many girls. I also invited one of Ashley's friends for her to hang out with and Pres joined us as well. I think there were 12 girls in all at my house that night.
She was baptized on March 27th. It was an awesome day! We have the best families in the world! I think there were almost 70 people there total to support Aly. Preparing for the baptisim was interesting, oh yeah I didn't prepare. Being the first baptisim for me and being partially brain dead from lambing I forgot a few things, important things. A towel, WHITE underwear, dry underwear, poor Alysen. She laughed at me the entire day:) That's one of the things I love about her, she loves to laugh, mostly at me. Her Grandpa Crane baptized her (twice!) and her Grandpa Talbot confirmed her. It was a great day!

A few words
I am normally not a person of few words. So when I looked at the last post date on this blog, I almost passed out. But the sad truth is...I am brain dead and probably have a ton of things to type, but forgot them. Hopefully as I go along the words will come to me and yeah, I forgot the rest of the sentence. Pictures to come, I don't have my camera in the barn, yes I am on the laptop, at 12:35 AM, in the barn, lambing sheep, so that Will can sleep.
